But all these changing seasons are adorable and very much liked by the tourists. The weather remains hospitable throughout the year in winters, in summers and during monsoons too. Tourists don’t have to wait for a specific season or a particular time to visit Ooty. Any time of the year tourists may go there because weather is favorable throughout the year. All the seasons coming to Ooty, give beauty to this place in different aspects.

The summers bring lots of colour and charm to ooty. During summers, Ooty was the very popular spot for the British during the colonial period. Among all the tourist spots in south India Ooty is the favorite destination for the visitors because of its cool climate when compared to the other places in the vicinity. The climate in Ooty is temperate throughout the year. The summer lasts from the month of March to September, winters from October to February and monsoon starts in the month of July for three months and lasts till the month of September. This is the time when Ooty has maximum colours.  The peak time when the tourists visit Ooty is during the month of February and March and also between October and November.

Summer

The summer months in ooty are March, April, May, June, July, August and September. The temperature ranges between 10º C to 25ºC during the summers.The days are hot and the nights are with very plasant coolness. During the early summer months, light rainfall is seen in Ooty which gradually increases by the month of May.

Winter

The weather during winters is cold and much drier. The temperature chills down to 4º C. While the temperature raises upto 18 º C during the day time. Winters lasts from the months of October to February, January being the coldest month. It is foggy in ooty during the winters. The sun shines for around seven hours per day. This makes the weather pleasant during the day time. Little showers f rain during the winters makes the weather very romantic and adorable.

Monsoons

Ooty receives a rainfall of 121 cm on an average during the monsoons. The monsoon starts early in the month of May and lasts till September. Whole Nilgiri hill is covered with new plantations during the monsoon. This is the time when all the hills are bustled with the colorful flowers. This time is not favorable for the trekking hence the tourists rush is low during the monsoons.

Overview

Ooty short form for Udhagamandalam is the capital of Niligiri district. Popularly known as Queen Of hills, this place attracts the tourists throughout the year. In one word the weather in ooty can be described as “refreshing”. The beautiful monsoons, mild and pleasant summers and the cool charming winters, make it the most attracted tourist destination in south India. Summers last from March to May with temperature ranging between 15°C to 20°C. While in the winter months (from November to January) the temperature ranges between 4°C to 15°C.Spring months are February and March. This is the time when Ooty is covered with lush green flora. Monsoons last from June to September followed by autumn season in October and November. The rainfall is quite heavy and all the trek routes are closed during the monsoons.

In winters i.e. from the month of October to February the graph lowers down to 0°C-5°C and raises as high to 21°C. In summers the maximum temperature raises to 25°C.

Best Time To Visit Ooty

Ooty, ‘the queen of the hill stations’, is located at the Nilgris at a height of 2268 meters. As the temperature variation during the various seasons is negligible, crowds of tourists throng Ooty throughout the year.

Pleasant summers followed by cool winter mark the climate of Ooty with the variation temperature during the day being less. March to June and November to February is the best time to visit Ooty.

The maximum and minimum temperature during the summer months of April to June is 25º Celsius and 10º Celsius respectively. This peak season witness highly priced hotels and the low availability of hotels.

Monsoon brings out the green face of Ooty when it is less crowded and the tourist is presented with great bargains. The months between July and September witness an average of 121 cms of rainfall.

The maximum and minimum temperature during the winter season is 21º Celsius and 5º Celsius respectively. Woollen clothing’s are a must when visiting during this season as the day can be cool and the nights are cold. During this season, occasional rainfalls are received from the north-east monsoons.

The normal temperature at Ooty is 12C to 18C. The climate is hospitable for the tourists throughout the year. The summer months from March to MAY are very enjoyable. Cold winters are thrilling and the monsoons bring the splendid flora. Winters lasts from the months of October to February, January being the coldest month. It is foggy in Ooty during the winters.
